What is CKI?
Circle K International (CKI) is the premier collegiate and university community service, leadership development, and friendship organization in the world. With more than 13,770 members in 17 nations, CKI is making a positive impact on the world every day.
Circle K clubs are organized and sponsored by a Kiwanis club on a college or university campus. CKI is a self-governing organization and elects its own officers, conducts its own meetings, and determines its own service activities.
CKI blends community service and leadership training with the opportunity to meet other college students around the world. Projects such as the Six Cents Initiative, CKI’s International fundraiser that aims to provide water to the 2.2 billion children worldwide who lack safe drinking water, bring CKI members together to make a difference in the world. About Our Club
Binghamton Circle K is part of New York District Circle K, more specifically The Southern Tier Division (TST). Also in The Southern Tier Division of NYCKI is Cornell University, Ithaca College, Elmira College, and Hartwick College. Here is a map of the schools in our division.
Our Binghamton chapter strives to uphold the values of CKI, and do so by partnering with numerous local organizations to impact our community in a positive way. Out commitments involve longtime relationships with university organizations such as the Boys and Girls club, SUNY Kids, and the local pre-school program. Beyond just our relationships with SUNY Binghamton, we have also made sure to be involved with local organizations, including the Binghamton Rescue Mission, Broome County Humane Society, and Mom's house, just to name a few. These various organizations are often aimed at helping underprivileged families, children, and animals, and these are exactly the type of people who we want give support to.
We volunteer at charity walks for causes such as AIDS/HIV, Alzheimer's awareness, TOMS One Day Without Shoes, and Out of Darkness. We also volunteer with the Boys and Girls club, SUNY Kids, and the local pre-school program. Some of our close partners include the March of Dimes and UNICEF, and we intend to continue building our relationships with other community service organizations both between universities and local social service institutions.
Every five or six years all the Kiwanis International clubs around the world raise awareness and financial support to help eliminate a disease that can be avoided for marginalized communities. Recently, we have worked on eliminating Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus by raising up to $110 million worth of funds from 2010 to 2015. Since then, CKI has raised over $50 million dollars, and saved millions of lives. Prior to that initiative, in the 1990s, CKI was responsible - with the rest of the extended Kiwanis Family - for helping to successfully diminish the rates of iodine deficiency disorders, which was a leading cause of mental disabilities among the adolescent population.
